We'd love you to read a few career stories to really understand the career routes available to you.
I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy in 2008 and began looking for positions within the NHS. Having found that the job situation at the time was not good I decided to look elsewhere for employment. That is when I saw a Personal Training position available at David Lloyd. I sent my CV into the managers at the Southampton club who promptly called me up and explained that they would allow me not only to personal train, but practice physiotherapy aswell. I was invited along to the Assessment Day and once I got through that I was then asked to come and work in the Gym at Southampton.
That was 18 months ago and since then I have made resounded progress in the industry. I have been able to build a successful PT and Physio business at Southampton. I was put onto the David Lloyd ‘Personal Trainer Journey’, and with the help of my managers I was able to complete it within the year. I had to complete training modules on ‘PT on the Net’ and pass my NASM level 3.
The result now is that I am now delivering 30+ hours per week and on top of that take 5 classes a week, earning great money! However, the money isn’t the only thing keeping me at David Lloyd. The team I work with are brilliant and I have more and more opportunities put out in front of me, and I get to go on some really interesting courses. I have loved every minute of the last year and a half at David Lloyd and hope to continue on in my career.
I joined the team at David Lloyd Leisure - Bromsgrove into the role of Health & Fitness Manager. Following a successful first twelve-months including strong performance against my KPI's-taking Bromsgrove into the top 5 UK clubs for delivery of personal training income, I was identified by my Regional Director as a potential future General Manager of the business.
I attended an Assessment Day to identify my strengths and weaknesses and a detailed Development Plan was put into place for me that included how I could maximise my behavioural strengths and better understand my areas of development. As part of my development it was suggested that in order to grow my knowledge of the wider business I needed to learn about another club management role and as such over the next three years I carried out the role of Operations Manager. I achieved my objectives here and also continued to work with my General Managerand Regional Director to expose me to other aspects of the business.
I was rewarded with my first full time General Manager appointment in February 2007 at David Lloyd Solihull South. During the two-years at Solihull South we re-branded the club to a David Lloyd Fitness Club and with a lot of hard work from the team the club has delivered a superb set of results with one of the highlights being a 500 plus member gain which has returned a 75% YOY profit growth.
In August 2009 I was again promoted to the role of General Manager of David Lloyd Luton where I was excited by the challenge of a new and bigger club. I have every faith and confidence that following my success so far, David Lloyd Leisure can offer me greater opportunities to grow my career in the future.
My journey in the industry began back in Norway, where I started out as a fitness instructor. When I moved across to London to study I took a part time job at Esporta, working for front of house. After I graduated with a MA (Hons) in International Communications I accepted a job as Sales Consultant at Next Generation in Ipswich. Working with a great team and going through the transition to David Lloyd Leisure made me aspire to climb the ladder within the company. After 16 successful months in Ipswich I was promoted to Sales Manager of Kingston club, where my hard work and drive have led to some great results. I love working for a company that recognises me and aims to develop talent from within. I am very excited about my future career in David Lloyd Leisure.
