BOUTIQUE-STYLE HIIT CLASS COMES TO DAVID LLOYD CLUBS
Blaze is a high intensity interval training (HIIT) boutique-style workout class that is synced to music by epic dance DJs. The class offers a whole new way of working out and invites attendees to wear a heart rate monitor throughout the class to track their progress and encourage healthy competition amongst class participants or simply beat their personal best. Its debut at David Lloyd Clubs’ sister club in Kensington has doubled participation in group exercise.
The Blaze studio is home to a set of Woodway treadmills, a bespoke weight bench called the Blaze box with suspended punch and core bags for mixed martial arts.
On arrival at the class, participants strap a MyZONE heart rate monitor around their chests which links to a screen in the studio. Activity is classified into ‘yellow’, ‘green’ and ‘red’ zones, with the red zone being where class members are working their hardest and encourages healthy competition between the class.
The Woodway treadmills, bespoke Blaze box and martial arts bags act as stations and participants move between these stations; running, lifting weights or boxing and martial arts. As the class moves around, the activities change, all the while working in time to different coloured lighting and dance music that plays over the class.
The signature Woodway treadmills can be set to a steep incline for maximum cardiovascular activity. Meanwhile the Blaze box contains dumbbells in varying weights, so those in the class can choose the weight that suits their ability. The suspended punch bags and mobile core bags allow participants to perform a mix of boxing techniques and martial arts, testing both agility and strength, as well as blowing off some steam.
The signature Blaze class lasts 45 minutes and there is also a 55-minute class which packs even more of a punch.
Members spend three to four minutes at each station and coloured lighting changes in the class signalling the end of the round, allowing a breather until they move on to the next station.
The Blaze class is led by a fearless instructor, encouraging participants to work harder, get in the red zone (maximum heart rate effort) and challenge themselves while burning fat and building strength. In a 45-55 min Blaze session you can potentially achieve a 500-1000 calorie burn.
Michelle Dand, Group Fitness Manager for David Lloyd Clubs says, “The Blaze studio brings boutique style fitness to David Lloyd Clubs and is perfect for those looking to train in a fast-paced and exciting environment with varied and challenging exercises.
