Club Closures and Reopening information

Clubs in England

We are delighted to have reopened all Clubs in England. 

Our clubs will generally operate as they did after the first lockdown, with additional measures in place to ensure the safety of our members and team members.

Do I need to wear a face covering when I visit the Club?

Face coverings are mandatory in all indoor areas of our Clubs unless you are exempt. You do not have to wear a face covering when exercising or when seated within the Club lounge however, a face covering must be worn at all other times.

If you are exempt, we can provide you with an exemption card from so that everyone knows you are not required to wear one.

Our team members will be wearing face coverings unless exempt or exercising too and will be doing all they can to ensure our members are always wearing theirs.

We won’t allow you into your Club without a face covering being worn unless you are exempt.

Will indoor group exercise classes be starting again on 17th May?

Yes, in line with the latest government guidance, our programme of indoor group exercise classes will restart on 17th May. We will also be opening our saunas and steam rooms, as well as serving food and drink to be consumed in our Clubrooms from this date.

We contacted all members via email on 29th March with details of our reopening.

When will my membership restart?

Your membership reactivated on 12th April 2021 and you were able to start using the Club from this date.

When will my next payment date be and how has it been calculated?

The direct debit payment for April was collected on 12th April. The fee was reduced by any credited days owed for when the Club was closed, and covered the remaining days of April that the Club was open for. Details were sent to each member by email on 29th March 2021.

What will happen to the date of my annual membership renewal?

We will extend the renewal date of your membership and any associate memberships by the number of months the Club has been closed for.

I am still within the initial term for my membership, what will happen?

Your term will also be extended by the number of months that the club was closed.

I have a question about my membership – who do I contact?

Please contact our Membership Support Team, the best way to reach them is via the Manage my Membership section within the David Lloyd Clubs App. Alternatively you can use the Manage my Membership section in the members area of our website or by email, which you can send to {clubname}@davidlloyd.co.uk. I am not ready to come back yet, what are my options?

What are my Club's opening hours?

Clubs are open 7 days a week. You can view opening hours in the app or find your club here.

Are changing rooms open?

Yes, our changing rooms are open and set up to support social distancing.

How will you be managing capacity to ensure that the Clubs don’t become overcrowded at busy times?

Each area has a capacity limit in place, with Group Exercise class spaces determined by a socially distanced set up, tennis courts by the number of players and our pools all have controls in place for both bather volume and poolside use, with loungers positioned in a socially distanced layout.

How do I book a Personal Trainer?

You can book and pay for your personal training via the David Lloyd Clubs app.

Will I be able to use existing, unused Personal Training vouchers to access Personal Training?

Yes, you can use your existing PT vouchers – just make your Personal Training booking in the app and use your voucher to pay. We have extended all Personal Training vouchers until the end of August 2021.

Are you still offering your online and app-based exercise content?

Yes! The feedback from members about our on demand classes, live streaming and training tips has been that it is a brilliant addition and really positive and we will continue to offer this free of charge going forward.

We will continue to provide on demand content, seminars and tips to complement your in-Club experience.

I don’t have the David Lloyd app how do I go about getting it?

Downloading the app is easy, just go to your device's App Store or Play Store, search for David Lloyd Clubs and click download. You will find a simple step by step guide to follow, which will help you with the initial registration and then how to navigate the app. You will need your membership number, which is the number on the left of your membership card, and you will also need your email address to register. Further membership questions

I emailed to cancel my membership when the club closed / during the Club’s closure, why haven’t you processed this request?

We are sorry that your request has not been processed. The Membership Support Team are available to help and will be able to process your request.

We will use the date that you first contacted us as the point of notification, so any notice to cancel will take effect as usual, from the 1st of the following month. If we received your notice to cancel before the 4th of the month we will start your notice period from the 1st of that month.

I contacted the Club to cancel my membership whilst the Club was closed, why are you holding me to a notice period?

Whilst memberships were frozen, free of charge and no money was taken during the close period, our usual terms and conditions still applied. You will not have been charged nor will you be charged for the months of your notice period that the club was closed for.

Do you offer a shorter membership as times are uncertain?

You always have the option of moving onto a “Flexible” membership. Your Club team will be able to provide all the information you need to consider this membership option.

I owe some money for my membership - how do I make that payment?

Please follow this link to make your membership fee payment.

I am halfway through my 3-month notice period, what’s going to happen with my cancellation?

All memberships will be restarted when we reopen and you will be charged your usual membership fee for the remainder of your notice period when the Clubs are open.

My employer is paying my membership through GymFlex, what should I do?

We will extend your membership with us, through GymFlex, for the month the Clubs have been closed, but if you have any questions about payments, or membership queries, then you would need to talk to your employer or GymFlex directly as they manage your membership. 

My guest passes expired during the period the club was closed, can these be extended?

All guest passes that expired during September, October and November will be extended and will now expire at the end of August 2021.

How do you process my personal information?

Clubs in Scotland

Following First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's recent announcement, we’re excited to have reopened all clubs in Scotland from Monday 26th April, following on from our outdoor facilities which reopened on 12th March. Indoor group 

Our clubs will generally operate as they did after the first lockdown, with additional measures in place to ensure the safety of our members and team members.

Will indoor group exercise classes be starting again on 17th May?

Yes, in line with the latest government guidance, our programme of indoor group exercise classes will restart on 17th May. We will also be opening our saunas and steam rooms, as well as serving food and drink to be consumed in our Clubrooms from this date.

Please note that following the recent government announcement, indoor group exercise, our sauna and steam room will be unavailable in our Glasgow West End Club from 17th May.

I paid my direct debit in full in December before the Club was closed for a period at the end of the month. Will these days be credited to my account?

We have been in touch with details of any credit owed to you for the days of club closure. Vouchers and other credit options including food & drink and personal training vouchers will also be extended.

The fee was reduced by any credited days owed for when the Club was closed. You were contacted via email with details of your upcoming direct debit and the amount of days of credit you are owed.

We will extend the renewal date of your membership and any associate memberships by the number of months the Club has been closed for.

Wales – Swansea and Cardiff Clubs

Following First Minister Mark Drakeford’s announcement on 23rd April, we have reopened all Clubs in Wales from Monday 3rd May, including gym, pools, courts, indoor group exercise (for up to 15 people), kids classes and the Clubroom. 

What will my Club’s opening hours be?

Clubs will be open Monday – Friday: 6am – 10pm and Saturday – Sunday: 7am – 8pm.

Will changing rooms be open?

Changing facilities are now open and are set up to support social distancing.

Do I need to wear a face covering when I visit the Club?

Face coverings are mandatory in all indoor areas of our Clubs unless you are exempt. You do not have to wear a face covering when exercising or when seated within the Club lounge however, a face covering must be worn at all other times.

You will be contacted via email with details of your upcoming direct debit and the amount of days of credit you are owed.

We will extend the renewal date of your membership and any associate memberships by the number of months the Club has been closed for.

I am still within the initial term for my membership, what will happen?

Your term will also be extended by the number of months that the club was closed.

Republic of Ireland – Dublin Club

Following the Irish Government’s announcement that outdoor sports facilities can reopen, we are delighted to be able to reopen our 4 outdoor tennis courts, the heated outdoor pool and begin outdoor All Stars tennis and swimming lessons at David Lloyd Dublin Riverview from Monday 26th April.

What are my Club’s opening hours?

Your Club will be open 7 days a week. Monday to Friday the Club will be open from 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm.

How will I access the outdoor facilities if the main Club building remains largely closed?

For access to the swimming and tennis lessons, enter via the side gate to the right of the main entrance. This will be signposted at the Club, your children will be signed in inside the marquee, just through the gate. The coaches will meet you here and this is also where you will pick up your children at the end of the lesson.

If you are an adult member playing tennis or going for a swim then you will enter through the main entrance as normal. You will swipe in, walk through the club and then exit by through the restaurant to get to the pool and court area.

Will changing rooms be open?

No, unfortunately we are currently unable to open our changing rooms due to government restrictions. There will be a toilet available in the reception area.

Do I need to wear a face covering when I visit the Club?

As it is only the outdoor areas that are open, you do not need to wear a face covering outside. However, if you do walk through the club you will need to wear a face covering. Members over the age of 12 years old must wear face coverings as they walk through the club. Entry will be refused to anybody not wearing a face covering, unless you are exempt from wearing a face covering.

If you are exempt from wearing a face covering, please let us know and we will provide you with a complimentary lanyard, to ensure your exemption is instantly recognisable to your fellow members and our teams.

How will you be managing capacity to ensure that the Club’s outdoor spaces don’t become overcrowded at busy times?

Each area has a capacity limited in place in line with government social distancing guidelines. If we reach capacity at any point, you may be asked to wait outside the front entrance until capacity becomes available.

Do I have to pay to use my Club’s outdoor facilities from Thursday 1st April?

Yes. You will need to opt in to use the Club’s outdoor facilities. There will be a one off cost which covers the period from 26th April until 31st May. This has been communicated to you via email. The price is fixed and will remain the same whether you choose to opt in on 26 April or at a later date prior to our indoor facilities opening.

An additional fee may be collected in June if the club has not reopened. We will communicate this nearer the time.

Opting in to outdoor fitness will give you access to all of our available outdoor facilities, regardless of your membership package. Opting in to outdoor fitness will not unfreeze your membership.

I don’t want to come back to the Club until it reopens its indoor facilities. Will I still be charged for the period between 26th April and indoor facilities reopening?

No, your membership remains frozen, free of charge until we are able to open more facilities.

When can I start booking my chosen activities?

From 8am on Wednesday 21st April tennis can be booked in the app.

Can I use a guest pass and bring a friend to the Club to use the outdoor facilities?

No, to enable us to manage capacity and keep everyone safe at our Clubs, guests won’t be allowed to visit the Club whilst it is only open for outdoor fitness.

Northern Ireland – Belfast Club

Following the Northern Ireland Government’s recent announcement that indoor leisure facilities can reopen, we are delighted to have opened indoors, as well as opening further outdoor facilities, from Friday 30th April. This follows on from the limited outdoor facilities which reopened on 12th April.

Facilities now available include: Gym, Personal Training, indoor and outdoor pool, indoor and outdoor tennis, indoor tennis coaching, outdoor group exercise, outdoor DL Kids classes, takeaway drinks and snacks service with outdoor seating available.

What will my Club’s opening hours be?

Monday to Friday the Club will be open from 6.00am to 10.00pm and Saturday and Sunday 7am to 8pm.

Will changing rooms be open?

During these uncertain times, it has never been more important for you to keep healthy and active. We will continue to provide online workouts free of charge, so don’t forget to continue to visit the app, where there is a wide range of new and exciting workouts to keep you active and entertained.

NHS Test and Trace

We are required to display the official NHS COVID – 19 QR code poster at the entrance of each of our Clubs to support the NHS Test and Trace system.

The government has asked many venues to do this and in our case, it is so that members, visitors and our teams entering our Clubs can use this code to “check in” their attendance at our Club, on the NHS COVID – 19 App as part of the NHS Test and Trace, you will see these codes at many different locations across England and Wales.

If you do choose to use the code and “check in” you will need to have downloaded the NHS COVID-19 App from the App store or Google Play and scan the QR code using the app and the code on the poster at the Club when you visit us.

You will still need to swipe your membership card as usual to enter the Club, as there is no direct link from the NHS Test and Trace to our own systems.

Other Questions

Was anyone maintaining the facilities whilst the Clubs were temporarily shut?

Yes, whilst the Clubs are closed the regional maintenance technicians are routinely visiting each of the Clubs to perform statutory and regulatory inspections and testing, along with general maintenance activities, to ensure the standards are maintained ready for the Clubs to fully reopen.

Will you notify me if I you think I may have come into contact with a person who has tested positive for Covid-19 whilst at the club?

We are fully complying with all government advice regarding this, supporting the government's track and trace system.

Do I need to wear a face covering when visiting the Club?

Yes, all members over the age of 12 years old must wear face coverings as they walk through the club. Entry will be refused to anybody not wearing a face covering, unless you are exempt from wearing a face covering.

If you are exempt from wearing a face covering, please let us know and we will provide you with a complimentary lanyard, to ensure your exemption is instantly recognisable to your fellow members and our teams.

If you are planning a visit to a Club, please keep the following in mind:
  • We are closely following government guidelines and working with UKActive, and we will amend our procedures in line with any changes to regulations.
  • Please do not come to the club if you feel unwell and let us know if you or anyone in your household develop Covid-19 symptoms.
  • Help keep yourself safe by wiping down equipment before and after use and washing your hands frequently.
  • All members over 12 years must wear a face covering when inside the building unless you are exempt.
  • Please bring your own towel, yoga mat and water bottle.
  • Please keep social distancing in mind at all times, and leave plenty of space between yourself and other members.
  • Download the David Lloyd mobile app - you'll need to use it to book all classes, courts and kids classes.
  • Please be patient, polite and observe all notices, but of course if you have nay feedback, do let us know.
